The South Ossetian delegation at the 62nd round of the International Geneva Discussions focused on the ongoing periodic provocations on the border from the Georgian side, the facts of deliberate violation of the state border regime and the need to continue marking the state border line with engineering structures as a real factor in reducing the number of such violations. This was reported by representatives of the delegation of the Republic of South Ossetia.

The Russian party called on Georgia to provide guarantees of the non-use of force against South Ossetia and Abkhazia and to launch the process of delimiting the borders with the two republics, according to the press release of the Russian Foreign Ministry following the 62nd round of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia, held in Geneva on November 5-6.

“The participants confirmed their common commitment to this format, which remains a popular negotiating platform for the post-conflict restoration of Tbilisi's relations with Sukhum and Tskhinval.

The co-chairs of the Geneva discussions will advocate for preserving Geneva as a platform for negotiations. This was stated to the media by the UN co-chair Cihan Sultanoglu.

On Tuesday, a delegation of the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions arrived in the South Ossetian capital, including the UN, OSCE and the EU representatives.

It should be reminded that at the meeting between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the head of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry Akhsar Dzhioev, the possible transfer of the Geneva discussions to another venue was discussed.

The Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia have proven their importance over the 16 years of their operation as a very useful mechanism not only in communication between the parties, but also as a mechanism for ensuring stability, ensuring the direct dialogue between Tskhinval and Tbilisi.

This was stated on Tuesday by the head of the South Ossetian delegation, State Advisor to President Konstantin Kochiev at the meeting with the co-chairs of the Geneva Discussions in Tskhinval.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov plans to discuss at the meeting with the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Akhsar Dzhioev where it would be more convenient to hold discussions on security and stability in the Transcaucasia, which had previously been held in Geneva.

"We are working closely with our Abkhaz friends within the framework of consultations on Transcaucasia which until recently were held in Geneva. Now we will see where it would be more convenient to organize such meetings," Lavrov said at the beginning of talks with his South Ossetian counterpart.

It is quite difficult to confirm the affiliation of unmanned aerial vehicles violating the airspace of South Ossetia, however, such facts are being monitored, the head of the South Ossetian delegation to the IPRM, Yegor Kochiev, has noted in a comment to journalists.

"When we report on the hotline about the fact of the aircraft flight and the Georgian side tries to identify it, the drone leaves the airspace of South Ossetia, or lands, possibly on the territory of Georgia, accordingly, it is quite difficult to confirm the fact of the flight," Kochiev said.

The removal of the illegal Georgian police checkpoint from the territory of the village of Uista in South Ossetia has once again become one of the points of discussion within the framework of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) format. This was reported to the representatives of the mass media by Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of President of the Republic of South Ossetia for Post-Conflict Settlement, the head of the South Ossetian delegation to the IPRM Egor Kochiev.

The 121st meeting was held in the border village of Ergnet on Thursday.

Since the last meeting within the framework of the IPRM, 6 cases of violation of the state border of South Ossetia have been recorded. At the next round of Geneva discussions, the South Ossetian delegation stated the need to significantly intensify еру work to clarify the fate of the missing and called on the Georgian party to take practical steps to solve this problem. On June 25-26, 2024, the 61st round of International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia, held in accordance with the Medvedev-Sarkozy agreements of August 12 and September 8, 2008, took place in Geneva.
