The Co-chairman of JCC from the georgian side Mandzhavidze has spread a letter concerning the detention of the military men of the peace-making forces from the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania by the power structures of Georgia. In the letter it is spoken, that the arrested persons are accused of an armed assault and illegal imprisonment of the citizens of Georgia, in this connection on August, 30th each of them is sentenced to 2 months of imprisonment by the Mtskheta regional court.
As the correspondent of the agency «Res» has been informed at the apparatus of the south-ossetian part of JCC, «the detention and the charges in the address of the two citizens of the Russian Federation are illegal. According to the protocol of JCC №7 from December, 6th, 1994, «The members of military contingents and groups of military observers get under the exclusive jurisdiction of their Parties in everything as regards any offences that can be committed by them». And according to the article 18 of the same protocol, «the control over the legality of activity of the military contingents is carried out by the bodies of the Office of Public Prosecutor by each of the Parties».
