A regular meeting of the Mechanism on Prevention and Reaction to Incidents (MPRI) will be held today in the Georgian village of Ergneti, bordering on South Ossetia.
As IA "Res" has been informed at the office of the RSO Presidential Envoy for post-conflict settlement, at the meeting it is planned to discuss the situation on the border with the Republic of Georgia, in particular, the incidents, which took place there from July 26 to September 24, ie since the last meeting of MPRI.
Besides, the South Ossetian delegation will raise the issue of the situation in the village of Zardiantkari, bordering on South Ossetia, where the Georgian security forces placed a police post in June of this year. This fact caused reasonable fear for their own safety among the inhabitants of this village. Traditionally, the South Ossetian side will also raise the issue of the missing citizens of South Ossetia. The participants of the meeting will continue to work on mutual extradition of prisoners and detainees.
It should be reminded that an agreement on the establishment of MPRI was reached at the fourth round of the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia in February 2009. The meetings in this format are attended by representatives of South Ossetia, Russia, Georgia, the EU and the OSCE.
