Statement of the Committee for State Security (KGB) of the RSO
During the last week the situation at the state border between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia has seriously worsened.
The Georgian authorities, misinforming the population that in some areas South Ossetia "a few hundred metres moved the border line deep into the Georgian territory," incite the residents of the settlements, bordering on South Ossetia, to provocations.
So, on May 27, near the state border of South Ossetia, adjacent to the settlement of Ditsi, Gori district of Georgia, the residents attempted to damage and destroy the frontier posts and barbed wire set up by the border guards at a distance of 50 meters from the Georgian border. May 31 and June 1, in the village of Ditsi were held meetings with the demand to remove the constructed security facilities from the State border between South Ossetia and Georgia.
In response to recent events KGB of South Ossetia considers it necessary to clarify that the work to define a frontier between South Ossetia and Georgia is carried out by a special commission in strict accordance with legislation of the RSO and on the basis of cartographic and documentary material within the boundaries of the former South Ossetian autonomous region of the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic. The engineering constructive works at the State Border are carried out by the Russian border services strictly in the territory of South Ossetia at a distance of 30-50 meters from the borderline between South Ossetia and Georgia, within the framework of the Agreement reached on April 30, 2009 between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation on joint efforts to protect the state border of the Republic of South Ossetia.
KGB of South Ossetia is empowered to state that any attempt to cross the state border of South Ossetia illegally, to intervene in the activities of the border guards, as well as to damage the state property, will be severely suppressed. Those responsible will be detained and held criminally liable under the laws of the Republic of South Ossetia or will be penalized under administrative law.
