The co-chairs of the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia promised the relatives of the missing citizens of South Ossetia to assist in arranging another meeting with the Attorney General of Georgia. This was discussed during today's meeting of the OSCE co-chair Andriy Deshitsa with mothers of Alan Khachirov, Alan Khugaev and Soltan Pliev, abducted in October 2008.
According to Deshitsa, if the relatives of the missing persons want to go to Gori to meet with representatives of the Georgian law enforcement officials to clarify the fate of their loved ones, he can help them in this matter.
"We are also considering the possibility of holding the meeting on neutral ground. Most likely, it will be held after one of the MPRI meetings, where I plan to raise this issue,"- he said.
He has assured that the safety of the citizens of South Ossetia will be fully ensured.
"The law-enforcement bodies of Georgia have said that in order to continue the investigation of these cases, the South Ossetian side must give them more information," - said Deshitsa.
In turn, the relatives of the missing persons have noted that the main witnesses of these abductions are in Georgia.
" We have only one witness who has seen them in the prison hospital," - said the mother of Alan Khugaev.
Andriy Deshitsa has stressed that the co-chairs are not entitled to interfere in the course of the investigation.
"We can only supervise the process, but we do not have complete information about all the facts of the investigation. We do not have access to it. Maybe the law-enforcement bodies have questioned someone; I do not have exact information about it. Perhaps for the next meeting of MPRI I will have more enhanced information," - he said.
Deshitsa has assured that he will continue to work in this direction.
It should be reminded that in May, 2013 was already held a meeting of the Attorney General of Georgia Archil Kbilashvili with relatives of the missing citizens of South Ossetia. He promised to resume the investigation and apply all necessary efforts to clarify their fate. October 2008 citizens of South Ossetia Alan Khachirov, Alan Khugaev and Soltan Pliev were abducted near the border of South Ossetia. According to the available information, which is confirmed by the OSCE Mission in Georgia, as well as by the international experts to investigate cases of the missing persons, these citizens were arrested by the law enforcement officers of Georgia. Despite the conclusive evidence, the Georgian authorities have denied that these citizens are still being kept in Georgian prisons.
