A military parade dedicated to the 23rd anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic has taken place in the capital of South Ossetia.
Before the parade President Leonid Tibilov addressed the people. The Head of State has congratulated them on the 23th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic, stressing that people of South Ossetia are convinced of the correctness of the path chosen on September 20, 1990.
«Within the framework of the USSR legislation, strictly adhering to the norms of international law, proclaiming the right of nations and peoples to self-determination, we have laid the foundation of a new state of South Ossetia, the foundation for a prosperous life of future generations of our nation, » the President said.
Leonid Tibilov has noted that the path to freedom was long and thorny.
«On this way we have experienced the bitterness of losses. Every day and every hour we have to remember all those who gave their lives for freedom Ossetia, for you and me, for our common future. This pain is persistent, but on holidays the bitterness of irreparable losses is particularly acute. Let illume by the light of our grateful memory and love the names of our compatriots, Russian soldiers, all those heroes who boldly advocated self-determination of South Ossetia and who is not with us today, "- said the head of state.
The participants paid tribute to the victims of the Georgian fascism by observing a minute’s silence.
"Today we can say firmly that the security of South Ossetia is reliably ensured by our valiant Armed Forces and the 4th military base of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Russian FSB Border Control Agency, stationed here on a contractual basis. Let me also remind you that, in accordance with the signed intergovernmental agreements, Russia is the guarantor of security of the citizens of South Ossetia and the inviolability of its borders. This is quite a powerful force that reliably protects the peaceful, constructive labor of our citizens," - said Tibilov.
Then the subdivisions of the Ministry of Defence, the Interior Ministry riot police, border guards and military equipment of the Armed Forces of South Ossetia marched along the central square. The parade was followed by street festivities.
