The State Duma is counting on cooperation with Georgia in considering the appeal of the South Ossetian Parliament on the genocide of Ossetians by Tbilisi, said the State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

"We hope that Georgia, for its part, will help and build communications in considering this issue. The accusations are very serious, they should certainly be based on reasoning, objective events, we will study all this," Volodin told Russian journalists on Monday.

After the working group studies the issue and develops proposals, the chamber will return to this issue and make a decision.

According to Volodin, it is important for Russian deputies that the decision here be as objective as possible and that "everyone should understand, if such a situation was with regard to the people of South Ossetia, then it would be right to acknowledge and support the appeal of colleagues from South Ossetia."

He has noted that much will depend on what argument and what materials are presented, and, of course, "on cooperation with the Georgian party."

"Representatives of the Parliament of South Ossetia are bringing charges against Georgia, so it would be right for the Georgian side to provide materials so that we can objectively assess the situation," he said.

The Council of the Duma at a meeting on Monday created a working group to study the appeal of the South Ossetian Parliament on the recognition of the Ossetian genocide by Georgia, said First Deputy State Duma Speaker Ivan Melnikov.
