The decision of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to deprive Russian athletes of the right to compete in national olympiads and world championships is unfair and political, told IA “Res” Inal Gabaraev, Сhairman of the Сommittee on Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism of the South Ossetian Parliament.
“The problem of doping exists in many European countries, but sanctions are sent only against Russia, which, in turn, speaks of a certain political component in this matter,” Gabaraev said.
According to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee, Russian athletes can only compete under the flag of the International Olympic Committee.
“Thus, representatives of Russia are deprived of national attributes and the opportunity to perform under the anthem of their state, which in my opinion is extremely unfair,” he said. - The fact is that there are honest athletes, and there are those who are fond of doping, regardless of the country of residence. But again, the situation that has developed has a political connotation.”
Gabaraev has added that the World Anti-Doping Agency should first of all impose sanctions against Western countries, in which, in his opinion, the doping problem is most common.
It should be noted that the Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WAD) unanimously adopted the recommendation of the organization’s committee to deprive the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) of compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code. Thus, in accordance with the WADA code, Russia for four years is deprived of the right to host the world championships and submit applications for their holding, the country's athletes will not be able to perform at the Olympics and world championships under the national flag. The WADA Executive Committee also introduced a four-year ban on visiting international sporting events by Russian civil servants and the leadership of the Russian Olympic Committee and the Russian Paralympic Committee.
The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) will study the decision of the Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) within ten days.
