The Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia adopted a statement supporting the appeal of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry to the governments of the world over the 100th anniversary of the Ossetian genocide, the official website says.
"June 20 is marked the 100th anniversary of the Ossetian genocide committed by the Georgian authorities, and in this regard, 2020 is declared in the Republic of South Ossetia as the Year of Remembrance. Over the past century, the Georgian governments have repeatedly pursued a targeted policy of genocide against the Ossetian and Abkhaz peoples, as evidenced by historical documents, numerous manifestations of aggressive Georgian chauvinism in 1918-1920 and in 1989-2008, "the statement of Abkhazian legislators reads.
The National Assembly - The Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia, having considered the appeal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia to the governments of the world in connection with the 100th anniversary of the Ossetian genocide, considers it possible to raise the issue of recognition of the fact of genocide against not only Ossetian, but also the Abkhaz people by official authorities of Georgia during the XX - early XXI century and the adoption of the relevant resolution.
"Such crimes do not have a statute of limitations, and the one who committed them should be convicted and face a fair punishment," the document says.
Deputies of the National Assembly - Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia, sharing the pain of the loss of the Ossetian people, expressed sincere condolences and support to the families and friends of the victims.
