Parliamentarians of South Ossetia will discuss the agreement on dual citizenship with Russian colleagues

The agreement between South Ossetia and Russia on dual citizenship will be discussed at the meeting of the Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation with the Federation Council of the Russian Federation. This was reported to IA “Res” by Speaker of the Parliament of South Ossetia Alan Alborov.

He has clarified that the next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for mid-November in Tskhinval, the agenda of the meeting will include a number of important issues for the Republic.

“We are aware of the problems faced by our citizens; this is the recognition of military tickets and other documents of citizens of South Ossetia on the territory of Russia. To resolve these issues, as well as the issues that are not regulated by the dual citizenship agreement, it is necessary to study them in detail and sign separate bilateral agreements, which will clearly formulate specific implementation mechanisms for each item. We will discuss this at the meeting. We hope for fruitful work with our Russian colleagues and the solution of all the issues. The work in this direction is underway,” the Speaker said.

He gas also stressed that these issues are under the control of the head of state Alan Gagloev.

The Agreement between the Russian Federation and South Ossetia on dual citizenship was signed in Tskhinval on September 20, 2021. In May 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the ratification of this agreement.

According to the document, persons who are citizens of both parties enjoy the rights to social security, education, medical care in accordance with the legislation of the party in whose territory they permanently reside. At the same time, any party may grant rights and benefits to such persons, even if they reside in the territory of the other party.
