The effective development of the inter-parliamentary cooperation between South Ossetia and Russia was discussed by Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin and Chairman of Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia Alan Margiev, the official website of the State Duma reports.
The meeting of the speakers took place on Tuesday in Moscow.
Vyacheslav Volodin has emphasized that Russia and South Ossetia have special relations.
"We understand each other very well, we have a common history. And, of course, these topics require that the dialogue be constant and we be helping each other," he has added.
Speaking about strengthening cooperation, Chairman of the State Duma noted the major role of inter-parliamentary ties. He also drew attention to the importance of developing new formats of cooperation, filling bilateral interaction with specific content.
"Understanding this, it is necessary to propose those solutions and the agenda that correspond to the level of relations," Vyacheslav Volodin has added.
Alan Margiev supported the Chairman of the State Duma and the Russian colleagues, thanking them for their contribution to the development of bilateral relations.
"Over the years, we have developed close inter-parliamentary ties, and we are confident that thanks to the signed cooperation agreement between the State Duma and our Parliament, this interaction will reach even the higher level," Speaker of the Republic's Parliament has noted.
He has emphasized that today the fraternal peoples of Russia and South Ossetia are once again fighting fascism together.
"Next year, we will celebrate the anniversary of the Great Victory together. Our grandfathers and great-grandfathers coped with it together, shoulder to shoulder - of course, at the cost of many peaceful lives. We will always remember their feat and honor them forever," Alan Margiev.
The discussion also focused on strengthening relations based on the principles of mutually beneficial cooperation and non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
"Today, more than 22 thousand sanctions have been announced against our country. But despite this, the political system created by President Vladimir Putin has proven to be resilient to challenges, as well as the economic model. When we faced sanctions, our country was in sixth place among the world's economies. But over the past years, we have become the largest economy in Europe and the fourth economy in the world," Chairman of the State Duma has emphasized, noting the positive dynamics of GDP in terms of purchasing power parity.
Vyacheslav Volodin invited Alan Margiev and the deputies of the Republic to take part in the international forum dedicated to the preservation of historical memory, which will be held in April 2025 in Volgograd under the auspices of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, as well as in the international conference on the development of parliamentarism.
Alan Margiev accepted the invitation.
