The leadership of South Ossetia has already begun to change the established inefficient approaches to solving various issues of a socio-economic nature. This was announced by President Alan Gagloev during the XXI meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on socio-economic cooperation between South Ossetia and the Russian Federation, the press service of the President of South Ossetia reports.
Gagloev has expressed confidence that with joint and well-coordinated work, South Ossetia will be able to show results not only on the scale of the Republic, but also on the scale of the entire Caucasus region.
“Over the past years, the task of transition from restoration to economic development of South Ossetia has been constantly articulated. It must be said frankly that we have not yet achieved great success, and there is nothing special to boast of today. However, no one removed this task from the agenda, and we need to ensure its implementation under any circumstances, in particular, within the framework of the adopted Program for socio-economic development of South Ossetia until 2025. It would be superfluous to say that the Republic will not be able to achieve the set goals without the support of the Russian Federation, so we, of course, count on the constant assistance of our Russian friends. For our part, we have begun and will continue to change the established, but proved to be ineffective approaches to solving various issues of a socio-economic nature. I think that with close cooperation and mutual understanding, we will be able to show results not only on the scale of the Republic, but also on the scale of the entire Caucasus region,” Alan Gagloev has emphasized.
The head of the South Ossetian state greeted the Chairman of the Commission for the Russian part, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Dmitry Volvach and other members of the Russian delegation.
“For me, as president, this is the first meeting of the IGC, for you it is also the first as Chairman of the Russian part of the Commission. As you noted earlier, the last meeting of the IGC was held in Tskhinval almost four years ago. We are in constant contact with our colleagues from Russian departments. Nevertheless, I consider the format of the meetings of the IGC very important, since almost all the ministries and departments of our two states are represented here, and we can exchange views and discuss a variety of issues in person. Therefore, I considered it necessary for myself to personally attend the current meeting of the IGC and I hope that they will now be held regularly and without long breaks,” said Alan Gagloev.
Speaking about the changes that have taken place since the last meeting, the head of the South Ossetian state noted the need for closer cooperation between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation on all the issues, and, above all, the socio-economic ones.
“Speaking of changes, I first of all mean the covid epidemic, which has become a very serious test for us and for a long time changed the dynamics of everyday life, both in South Ossetia and in Russia. Another development is the special military operation in Ukraine. We can say with confidence that South Ossetia and Russia have once again demonstrated to the whole world their special relations that do not depend on any political situation,” he said.
The head of the South Ossetian state thanked his Russian colleagues for their constructive approach and demonstrated understanding of the difficult situation and tasks facing South Ossetia.
Following the meeting, the signing ceremony of the protocol took place. For the Russian part, the protocol was signed by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak, for the South Ossetian part - by Chairman of the Government of South Ossetia Konstantin Dzhussoev.
