President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev visited the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Russian Federation to express condolences to the Syrian people in connection with the devastating earthquake and its consequences, and also laid flowers at the wall of the Embassy, the press service of the head of state reports.
He was accompanied by Ambassador of South Ossetia to the Russian Federation Znaur Gassiev.
During the meeting with the SAR Ambassador to the Russian Federation Bashar Jaafari, Alan Gagloev has noted that people of South Ossetia are deeply mourning together with the friendly people of Syria and expresses deep condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
“Mr. Ambassador, I express my condolences to President Bashar al-Assad and all the people of the Syrian Arab Republic in connection with the terrible tragedy that caused numerous casualties. Unfortunately, my first visit to the Embassy took place during this difficult time. Friendly and fraternal peoples are near you. I am confident that the courageous people of the Syrian Arab Republic will withstand in this difficult hour. We are well aware that today the center of justice, the center of power, the center for the preservation of the values that have been instilled in us is the Russian Federation. We must be united and then we will be able to overcome everything,” he said.
For his part, Bashar Jaafari expressed gratitude to the head of the South Ossetian state for the visit.
He stressed that thanks to such strong leaders as President of South Ossetia, President of the Russian Federation, President of Syria and the presidents of other friendly countries, humanity has a chance for a brighter future.
“Of course, we wanted to meet and get to know each other in other conditions, but, as they say, man proposes, but God disposes. The leadership and people of the Syrian Arab Republic feel the support of the Russian Federation and South Ossetia. Despite all the conspiracies that have been woven around our country, our people have been able to endure throughout all these years. The policy of the West towards Syria even during this terrible earthquake is a direct proof of the hypocrisy of the Western countries towards humanity. Five days have already passed since the earthquake, but the European Union and Western countries have not provided any assistance to our country,” the Ambassador said.
Bashar Jaafari also noted that due to the sanctions of Western countries, Syria had difficulties in eliminating the consequences of the earthquake.
Due to the fact that Syria is under sanctions for 11 years, we now do not have the equipment to rescue people from the rubble. Surprisingly, the UN just yesterday delivered one convoy of humanitarian aid to Syria. Unfortunately, everything in the West is politicized, even humanitarian aid. You can imagine that ambulances do not even have fuel to carry the wounded, and at this time the United States is stealing our gas and oil to sell them to third countries,” the Ambassador said.
Alan Gagloev expressed confidence that the Syrian people, together with their friends, would overcome all the difficulties.
