Russia will provide comprehensive support to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, whose people have made a choice in favor of deepening integration. This is stated in the new Foreign Policy Concept of the Russian Federation, approved on Friday by the decree of President Vladimir Putin.
The document notes that in order to further transformation the near abroad into a zone of peace, good-neighborliness, sustainable development and prosperity, the Russian Federation will pay priority attention to "comprehensive support for the Republic of Abkhazia, the Republic of South Ossetia, assistance in the implementation of the voluntary choice based on international law of the peoples of these states in favor of deepening the integration with Russia".
