The delegation from South Ossetia headed by the Chairman of the Government Konstantin Dzhussoev took part in the farewell ceremony for the prominent political and state figure of the Republic of South Ossetia Rezo (Gerasim) Khugaev.
One of the founders of the South Ossetian Republic died on October 22 at the age of 79. He was buried on Thursday in Vladikavkaz.
As reported by the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, the delegation has also included members of Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia, members of the government, and representatives of the public of the Republic.
Konstantin Dzhussoev expressed condolences to the family and friends of Rezo Khugaev on behalf of the government and residents of South Ossetia.
Gerasim (Rezo) Georgievich Khugaev was born on November 15, 1945 in the village of Chasaval, Dzau District, Republic of South Ossetia. He graduated with honors from the Kvaisa Secondary School. In the 1980s, he was studying at the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Philosophy.
In 1981, he was elected Secretary of the party committee of the Kvaisa mine administration, and in 1987, he was appointed Deputy Head of the department of the South Ossetian regional party committee. He was a Member of Parliament of the first convocation, leading the armed detachment of defenders of South Ossetia, mayor of Tskhinval, and Chairman of the Public Chamber.
Rezo Khugaev is the only person in the modern history of South Ossetia who was appointed to the post of Chairman of the government twice - in 1993 and 2001.
Standing at the very origins of the formation of the statehood of the Republic of South Ossetia, he made invaluable contribution to its development.
