Syria's return to peace is possible only on the basis of political dialogue and interaction of all ethnic, religious and political forces. This is stated in the statement by the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry in connection with the situation in Syria.
The Foreign Ministry has noted that South Ossetia has been closely monitoring the events taken place in the Syrian Arab Republic in recent days.
"We proceed from the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of Syria and the peaceful resolution of the political crisis. We express interest in maintaining the unity and territorial integrity of the country, the formation of authorities that express the interests of all Syrians," the statement reads.
The RSO Foreign Ministry has emphasized that it is now important to stop the unwinding spiral of violence that is fraught with the most dangerous and unpredictable consequences, both for the integrity of Syria itself and the stability of the entire region.
Representatives of the armed opposition in Syria seized the state television in Damascus on December 8 and announced on the air that they had established control over the country. The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with a number of parties to the conflict, decided to resign and left the country, giving instructions to peacefully transfer the power. Assad and his family arrived in Moscow - the Russian Federation granted them asylum.
