The problem of gas supply of Leningor district of South Ossetia by Georgia is no longer relevant for the Republic.
This has been reported to IA "Res" by Presidential Envoy for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev. Thus, the ambassador commented on the statement of the Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili that South Ossetia would be supplied with gas from Georgia, as, according to Ivanishvili, the South Ossetian side had been asking for a long time.
"After the 2008 war, the South Ossetian authorities through international mediators have repeatedly appealed to the Georgian authorities to supply Leningor district with gas. Taking into account, that the population of the district consists basically of Georgians, we have assumed that the Georgian authorities will meet our appeal,"- said Dzhioev.
However, despite the repeated requests by the OSCE and other international organizations, Georgia did not agree for four years.
"At present, this problem is not more relevant to us," - said the envoy.
He has noted that the South Ossetian authorities have established traffic with Leningor district, currently the issue of gas supply of the district is being addressed.
"As for the rest of South Ossetia, it is supplied with Russian gas since 2009. I `d like to repeat, supplying Leningor district with Georgian gas is no longer urgent ", - said Dzhioev.
The ambassador has added, Georgia itself has been receiving gas from Azerbaijan at a fairly low price, fuel was offered to South Ossetia at the price three times more expensive and four times more expensive, than the cost of the Russian gas in the Republic.
As for the statement of the Georgian Prime Minister to open the Ergneti market, the envoy has stressed that this issue is not discussed at all in South Ossetia , "whether it is profitable for someone or not."
It should be noted that the Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili has made today a number of statements relating to the return of South Ossetia and Abkhazia through public diplomacy, in particular, gas supplies to South Ossetia, the restoration of relations with Russia, etc.
