April 1 in Tskhinval the Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in South Ossetia will host the exhibition dedicated to the International Day of Mine Threat Awareness and Assistance in Mine Clearing, which is celebrated on April 4.
As the news agency "Res has been informed by a spokesperson of the Mission Marina Tedety,
the official event to mark the opening of the exhibition will take place on April 4.
"The exhibition includes photographs from different regions of the ICRC activities, which are still dangerous to the local residents because of the unexploded ammunition. It will also be exhibited the best of drawing competition on the mine topic which was previously held among the schoolchildren in urban and rural secondary schools of the Republic "- said Tedety.
She has added that the mission of the ICRC in cooperation with the districts administrations will organize the children -participants of the drawing competition to visit the exhibition and see the educational film.
Traditionally, the issue of protecting the citizens from the threat posed by unexploded ammunition in the areas affected by the combat operations is one of the main functions of any state.
"To prevent the accidents, it is important for people to be aware of the danger posed by the explosive remnants of war. Every state has a duty to take appropriate measures to address the threat: the mines and unexploded ammunition, particularly banned by international treaties, should be detected and destructed, and the minefields cleared and handed over to the population for the peaceful use "- said Tedety.
She also noted the importance of the Convention on Prohibition of Using, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction (Ottawa Convention)
"The Convention has played a prominent role in the fight against anti-personnel mines. It is rightly called historic and unique. It is the only international treaty that is not regulating, but has completely prohibited the use, possession and production of modern weapons - anti-personnel mines ", - told Tedeti.
It should be noted that the Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in South Ossetia has been carried out diversified humanitarian activities, which also includes the work to reduce the mine threat in areas affected by the war, and where this problem poses a threat to normal civilian life.
The exhibition dedicated to the International Day of Mine Threat Awareness and Assistance in Mine Clearing will be held in the lobby of the Republican Library, named after Anakharsis, April 1-5.
