In South Ossetia, everybody has no doubt that Mikhail Saakashvili will abandon his positions adopted in August 2008. This was stated by the Vice-Speaker of the RSO Mira Tskhovrebova commenting on the statement of the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili that he did not intend to cooperate with the investigators to study the actions of the Georgian authorities during the war in August 2008.
"The Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili has demonstrated Russia his willingness to cooperate, even in such a painful issue as the August 08.08.08" - said Tskhovrebova.
She noted that Saakashvili, for his part, had called anti-state the investigation to study the actions of the Georgian leadership during the August war.
"Saakashvili has declared that revision of the policy, actions of the Georgian leadership in August 2008, is completely unacceptable, as it can shake the statehood of the country, and is directly aimed against the territorial integrity of Georgia," – has quoted his words the vice speaker.
In her view, the position of the President of Georgia is quite predictable.
"We have never doubted that Saakashvili will abandon the positions adopted in August 2008, especially as they have been crucial for him," – said the vice-speaker.
Defeat in the war of August 2008, said Tskhovrebova, "almost cost Saakashvili the presidency."
"The cause of activization of the Georgian opposition in 2008 and 2009 was not a bad ruling of Saakashvili or the unresolved social problems, but, first of all, the defeat of Georgia in South Ossetia. For me it is clear and unambiguous, "- said the vice speaker.
She has added that investigation of the events of August 2008 may be perspective.
"Regardless of the fact what has said Saakashvili, we, of course, are interested in the position of Bidzina Ivanishvili, this position has some specific perspective", - said Tskhovrebova.
Vice Speaker has also added that the Parliament of South Ossetia, in the near future intends to give a political and legal assessment of the events of August 2008.
"We are going to adopt a number of laws, including a law on compensation for damage caused to our people and our country in August 2008. We have every right to expect compensation from the authorities of Georgia. It is an international practice, and if Georgia claims to be a civilized and democratic country - as the basic principles of its statehood,- it must, in turn, compensate for the damage that it has caused to us,"- stressed Tskhovrebova.
Last week, Defense Minister Irakli Alasania said that his agency had begun to explore the actions of the former government during the August events. The Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili, in turn, has said that "he does not see anything wrong that the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili could be interrogated with regard to the events of August 2008."
