The fifth anniversary of the August 2008 aggression the South Ossetian society is marking in a state of serious national depression. This opinion was expressed by the Chairman of the State Committee of Information and Press of South Ossetia Vyacheslav Gobozov at yesterday's meeting of experts at the Media Centre "Ir", which participants had discussed the status of South Ossetia and the Republic as a whole, after five years of the Georgian aggression against South Ossetia in August 2008.

According to Gobozov, the post-war impulse of the Ossetian society, when everyone thought that we could take great strides forward, has not been justified.
"That is why at the heart of the idea of the accession of South Ossetia to Russia is deep disappointment with the public institutions, which were not able to implement this impulse," - said the head of the information agency.
The experts, public figures and journalists have also mentioned the terminology used by the Russian and foreign media publications, regarding the events of August 2008.
According to the head of the Media Center "Ir" Irina Gagloeva, terminological distortions in discussing the August aggression used in both the media and in the South Ossetian society, interpret the events in the wrong way.
"If today we look through the reports of the Russian media, as well as the sayings of our president, we will see the terms,'' the five-day war'', the ''war between '' Russia and Georgia, '' and the like," - said Gagloeva.
Terminological distortions of the events in modern history of South Ossetia promote the historical falsifications, representing Georgia as the victim of aggression, and the invasion of the Georgian army in South Ossetia - as the Russian-Georgian war.
Vyacheslav Gobozov has agreed with the head of the Media Center, noting that "the terminological liberties" will ensure that, instead of the August aggression, the concept "Russian-Georgian war" will go down in history.
"This concept is being traced not only in the Western media, where such a definition is primordial, but also in the Russian political science community. In fact, there is a normal term –
''The Georgian-South Ossetian war,'' "- emphasized Gobozov.
During the discussion, it was suggested to establish a special center for system monitoring and analysis of the past, current and future political processes.
Associate Professor of the Moscow State Law Academy Alexander Sergeev has emphasized that one could see an ambiguous coverage of the August 2008 war in the Russian media, too that prevented the incompetent readers from understanding the essence of the events in South Ossetia.
"I have been monitoring all the publications in August 2008, such as
'' Kommersant'', ''The Independent Newspaper'', '' Novaya Gazeta'','' Vedomosti'', ''Echo of Moscow,'' which openly lobbied for the interests of Georgia. There were also the moderately patriotic Russian newspapers, which took into consideration the political situation and a very small segment of the patriotic media, such as a newspaper ''Tomorrow'' with Alexander Prokhanov that truly described the August events, "- said the Russian expert.
Summing up the discussion, the experts have come to the conclusion that if South Ossetia intends to build an independent state, it should have an idea of what exactly it wants to achieve within the next 15 years. To achieve this understanding we should identify a clear set of issues that hinder the development of the young Republic.
