The upcoming celebrations are of great historical and political importance for Ossetia
President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov went to St. Petersburg, where he will take part in celebrations dedicated to the 270th anniversary of the First Embassy of Ossetia in Russia, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic said on Tuesday.
"The President is accompanied by Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev. On the way to Beslan Airport, Anatoly Bibilov paid tribute and laid a wreath at the monument to the First Ambassador in St. Petersburg Zurab Magkati in the ancestral village of Zaramag," the statement said.
On behalf of the diplomatic service of South Ossetia, Dmitry Medoev also laid flowers at the monument to Zurab Magkati.
On October 23-25, the Days of Ossetian Culture in St. Petersburg will be held, dedicated to the 270th anniversary of the First Embassy of Ossetia in Russia.
A multimedia historical park “Russia - My History” will open, within the framework of which scientific reports, concerts, documentary films will be held, master classes of national crafts and more will be organized.
The events will begin by showing a presentation film about Ossetia and a concert program with the participation of creative groups in Ossetia. The opening of the exhibition “Ossetia and Russia: the connection of times” will take place, including the expositions of the National Museums of South and North Ossetia.
The first Ossetian embassy left for Russia at the end of September 1749. It included Zurab Magkaev (Elikhanov), Eba (Elisey) Kesaev (Khetagov), Batyrmirza (Georgy) Tsopanov (Kurtaulov), Sozruko Tuganov and Kazi Kubatiev, as well as their accompanying persons. All members of the embassy were of noble origin, were well versed in politics and diplomacy.
It should be reminded that on October 18, the Parliament of South Ossetia approved the medal "270 years of the First Embassy of Ossetia in St. Petersburg."
Earlier, Presidential Adviser David Gazzati has noted that the upcoming celebrations are of great historical and political importance for Ossetia.
“The date indicates that diplomatic relations between Ossetia and Russia began to develop from the mid-18th century, which is confirmed by a wealth of historical data from various sources. In the context of today's realities, this memorable date is of great political importance, and it is important that the widest possible audience learns about it, " he stressed.
