Anatoly Bibilov gave an interview to the St. Petersburg television channel, in which he spoke about the events dedicated to the 270th anniversary of the First Ossetian Embassy in Russia and the historical premises existing in the 18th century that determined the need for Ossetia to join Russia.

According to the press service of the head of state, the President also answered questions about modern relations between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation, prospects for international recognition, and plans for cooperation with St. Petersburg.

The delegation of South Ossetia is in St. Petersburg to participate in celebrations dedicated to the 270th anniversary of the First Embassy of Ossetia in Russia.

From October 23 to 25, the Days of Ossetian Culture in St. Petersburg will be held. As part of the events, an official meeting is planned between President Anatoly Bibilov and the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov.

The date indicates that diplomatic relations between Ossetia and Russia began to develop from the mid-18th century, which is confirmed by a wealth of historical data from various sources. In the context of today's realities, this memorable date is of great political importance, and it is important that the widest possible audience learns about it.

The first Ossetian embassy left for Russia at the end of September 1749. It included Zurab Magkaev (Elikhanov), Eba (Elisey) Kesaev (Khetagov), Batyrmirza (Georgy) Tsopanov (Kurtaulov), Sozruko Tuganov and Kazi Kubatiev, as well as their persons. All members of the Embassy were of noble origin, were well versed in politics and diplomacy.
