Delegations of the defense ministries of South Ossetia and Russia held a meeting in Tskhinval on issues of interaction between departments on Tuesday, according to the official website of the Ministry of Defense of South Ossetia. The South Ossetian delegation was led by Minister of Defense of the Republic Ibrahim Gasseev, the Russian - Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces Sergey Istrakov.
During the meeting, the heads of delegations exchanged greetings and noted the high level of cooperation in the field of defense and security.
According to Ibrahim Gasseev, in the Republic, importance is attached to cooperation with the Russian Federation in the military sphere, since tasks of a national level are being solved.
“I note with satisfaction that cooperation in the field of defense and security and coordination between the defense departments of our states was highly appreciated during the meeting of Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Shoigu and President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov in May this year,” he said.
One of the main tasks on the agenda, Ibrahim Gasseev called the implementation of the provisions and norms of the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia on the procedure for the entry of certain units of the RSO Armed Forces into the RF Armed Forces of March 31, 2017.
“Together, we created all the conditions for the successful entry of citizens of South Ossetia for military service as part of the 4th Guards Military Base and other units of the 58th Army. At the same time, readiness to resolve all issues was noted at all levels. Dear Sergey Yuryevich, this is undoubtedly your great merit, since joining the 4th military base has always been under your personal control,” the Mnister emphasized.
Ibrahim Gasseyev expressed gratitude to all officers of the 4th military base, the 58th army, officers of the Southern Military District, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Russia for the work done.
Gasseyev has also noted that the agreement is not only military, but also of great socio-political importance and is a real continuation of the agreement between Russia and South Ossetia on alliance and integration, signed by the presidents of the two countries.
“Today we can summarize some of the results of joint activities, outline prospects and plans. We are ready to discuss the most pressing issues that are on the agenda. I express confidence that our meeting will serve even closer rapprochement of the national armed forces,” he said at the end of the speech.
For his part, Sergei Istrakov thanked Ibrahim Gasseev for the warm reception “We always come here with pleasure, because there really are close here, and I think that today's and tomorrow’s work of the delegation that came with me, will serve to further strengthen the issues of interaction between the armed forces of the parties,” he said.
During the meeting, a number of issues of mutual interest have also been discussed.
During the week, representatives of expert groups will be carrying out the work in various areas.
