Georgia's aspiration to the EU and NATO is an unjustified step that should not be taken. This was announced on Thursday by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko in an interview with the First Channel of the Georgian Public Broadcaster within the framework of the 52nd round of the Geneva Discussions on Stability and Security in Transcaucasia.
"Striving for Europe and NATO, in our opinion, is an unjustified choice that should not be made. Georgian politicians themselves must decide what they want. Live in a stable and predictable situation or constantly face mistrust, which will be further strengthened in the event of Georgia's membership to NATO, "Rudenko said.
On Thursday, the 52nd round of the Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia started, which will last until March 26. International discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia are held in Geneva since 2008 with the participation of Russia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and the United States, with the mediation of the UN, EU and OSCE special envoys. Traditionally, the work is carried out in two working groups - on security and on humanitarian issues. The Geneva discussions remain the only platform for dialogue between Tskhinval, Sukhum and Tbilisi.
