Presidential elections in South Ossetia will not be postponed, this issue is not being discussed, said the first Deputy Head of the Presidential Executive Office of South Ossetia, an expert Alan Dzhussoev, in a commentary to the “Res” news agency.
“The elections will be held according to the law, within the framework of our Constitution and within the framework of the temporary regulations that are laid down in it,” he has specified.
Dzhussoev stressed that every citizen of South Ossetia should use his right to come to the polls and vote.
“It is very important for us to preserve the foundations of our state, our statehood and the legal framework on which we have relied for the past 30 years,” the expert explained.
Dzhussoev has noted that the elections are postponed only if the president introduces a state of emergency in the country.
“I don’t know what will happen in a year, but today there is no situation due to which we would decide to postpone the elections,” Dzhussoev continued.
The expert drew attention to the fact that elections in South Ossetia had not been postponed since 1992, recalling that the referendum was held under shelling and pressure by Georgia.
"Then the situation was much more complicated, but we coped, and now we will cope," Dzhussoev believes.
He drew attention to the fact that Georgia did not give up its revanchist intentions.
“This should not be forgotten, despite the statements of the Prime Minister of Georgia that the country will not join the sanctions,” Dzhussoev said. “It’s one thing to say something, it’s another thing to actually do what’s been said. Still, they will try, to the best of their ability, to create difficulties for the citizens of Russia and the state as a whole.”
According to the expert, most Georgians today want reconciliation with Russia in order for Russia to "play back" the situation in South Ossetia against this background, "but this will never happen."
