A solemn meeting was held in Tskhinval in honor of the 31st anniversary of the formation of the Special Purpose Police Detachment (OMON) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of South Ossetia.
President of the Republic Alan Gagloev, representatives of the legislative and executive branches of power, heads of law enforcement and military structures came to congratulate the riot police.
Interior Minister Valery Gazzaev congratulated the OMON fighters and veterans on their professional holiday, wishing them fortitude and successful service for the benefit of the Fatherland.
“The special police detachment is the common pride of all the people,” said Gazzaev. “The history of the OMON counts today 31 years of selfless service to the people and the Fatherland, military labor.”
The Minister reminded that in 1992, Vadim Gazzaev, seeing the mortal danger that hung over the people of South Ossetia, took responsibility and created a detachment that selflessly serves the people to this day.
“If the deputies of the first convocation proclaimed independence and laid the foundation of our statehood, then the special purpose police detachment became the real content and pillar of statehood,” Gazzaev noted.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs mentioned other OMON commanders in his speech.
Further, those present have honored the memory of all the guys who gave their lives to serve the Motherland.
Alan Gagloev awarded Gazzaev the medal "30 years of OMON of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia for his personal contribution to the strengthening of law and order, and in connection with the celebration of the Day of the Formation of OMON,."

Gagloev has noted that it is difficult to overestimate the role of the OMON in repelling the Georgian military aggression.
"The fighters have always shown worthy resistance, in fact proving their love and devotion to the Motherland. You have always justified the trust placed in you," Gagloev addressed the riot police.
The President has added that serving in the ranks of the legendary unit has always been a great honor and responsibility.
Gagloev wished the team peace, kindness, good health, success in their professional activities for the benefit of the people.
During the solemn event, employees of the special police department were awarded state and departmental awards.
The participants of the event after the official ceremony laid flowers and wreaths at the monuments of the fallen riot policemen in 2008.
