The Embassy of South Ossetia in the Russian Federation took part in the opening of the monument to Simon Bolivar in Moscow

The Embassy of South Ossetia in Russia, at the invitation of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, took part in the opening ceremony of the monument to Simon Bolivar, the most authoritative leader in the war for the independence of the Spanish colonies in America. The monument was erected in Moscow on the occasion of the 240th anniversary of Bolivar's birth.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak, Minister of the Government of Moscow - Head of the Department of Foreign Economic and International Relations of Moscow Sergey Cheremin, Director of the Latin American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Shchetinin, Mayor of Caracas Carmen Melendez, Minister of Petroleum of Venezuela Pedro Rafael, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow, representatives of the Venezuelan Diaspora, as well as the public of the capital.

The place for the monument was determined in 2010. Then, in the presence of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a foundation stone was installed in the park. The Government of Venezuela donated to Moscow a copy of the equestrian sculpture of Simon Bolivar by the Italian master Adamo Tadolini, installed in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas.
