The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia, Akhsar Dzhioev, met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Nicaragua to the Republic of South Ossetia, Alba Azucena Torres Mejia, the department’s press service reports.
The meeting took place in Moscow on October 20.
“During the conversation, the parties discussed a number of issues regarding the further development of friendly South Ossetian-Nicaraguan relations,” the Foreign Ministry has clarified.
Nicaragua became the first country to follow Russia in recognizing the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. On September 5, 2008, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega issued an official decree recognizing the independence of the two republics.
