Azamat Pliev has been at the front since the first days of the special military operation, and even now, during the rehabilitation period after a complex operation, he has all his thoughts in the special military operation, and is looking forward to being able to return there.
“I worry most about my comrades, how they are doing there, I constantly keep in touch with them, but this is not enough for me. I feel calmer when I am close to them, because this way I can stand next to them in a difficult situation and help them. If it weren’t for the injury, I wouldn’t be sitting at home now, but would return back to the special military operation zone,” he said.
For more than two years, Pliev has been fighting as part of the Storm Ossetia volunteer detachment "Storm Ossetia". I made the decision to go to the war myself, without hesitation, after learning about the beginning of the special military operation.
“The enemy cannot be allowed to raise his head if we want a bright and peaceful future for ourselves. That’s why I’m there, that’s why other guys are fighting there,” the fighter said.
Pliev informed only his sisters of his intention to go to the special military operation; his parents were in the dark so as not to worry. However, after his first wound they learned about everything.
“My relatives were categorically against my participation in the special military operation, so I lied and said that I would be in a military unit in Vladikavkaz. I told the truth only to my sisters. I managed to hide my participation in the special military operation for about four months, but when I got my first wound, everything was revealed. When I returned to the special operation area after being wounded for the second time, I again tried to hide it from my parents, but was wounded again. They received a call from the hospital and were told that their son was alive, but seriously wounded,” Pliev shared his memories.
In the special military operation Pliev got two serious wounds, the first time - two bullets in the leg, and the second time - two bullets in the shoulder. He underwent long-term treatment in hospitals in Russia, underwent three complex operations on his arm, but the surgical interventions were unsuccessful.
“After the cast was removed in the hospital, my arm simply refused to work, the bones separated, and it became even worse than before. I was very upset because I had several operations, as it turned out, in vain. Later I turned to the famous surgeon Kazbeg Kudzaev, he immediately agreed to operate on me, free of charge, thank him very much. Now I’m going through rehabilitation again,” Azamat said.
He has noted that after rehabilitation he will immediately return to the special military operation zone.
Azamat remembers his second wound with some sadness, not because he was caught by the enemy bullet, but because his friend, the now deceased Aivengo Tekhov, rescued him from the ambush. Pliev emphasizes his unparalleled courage, having noted that he literally snatched him from the clutches of death.
“We were ambushed, we were on the front line, Aivengo was then fighting in a different direction, but upon learning that we were attacked and I was wounded, he immediately came to us, literally walked into the thick of the shelling, there was such a massacre then, and during the battle rescued me, wounded, from there,” Azamat has remembered with sadness.
Pliev and Tekhov were together in the special military operation zone from the very beginning, they were fighting side by side, but the latter, unfortunately, was killed...
Many tragic events resonate with pain in Pliev’s heart; he lost many comrades on the battlefield. The fighter admits that there are an endless number of cases when it seems to you that this is the end and he told one of them.
“The first platoon was ambushed, two were killed, several more were wounded and our third platoon had to rescue them from there. We went to help them, but found ourselves trapped. Our platoon commander was walking ahead of us, he was killed right before my eyes. I managed to shoot at the enemy, and then everything was like a fog. There was heavy shooting; they were firing at us from all sides. We have suffered irreparable losses. We couldn’t take the dead out of there, and our commander remained lying there. This incident is probably imprinted in my memory for the rest of my life,” Pliev said.
He said that being in the special military operation zone was always a risk to your life, because shelling continues constantly, you never know when the next shelling will become fatal for you. But at the same time, has he noted, that he no longer experiences fear as such, despite the fact that he clearly understands that he is in a place where your fate is not entirely in your hands...
Pliev noted the courage and unprecedented courage of the South Ossetian guys participating in the special military operation. He said that the fighters on the battlefield showed the real Ossetian spirit and belligerence.
“There are many Ossetian guys in the special military operation zone, who show real courage and fight very bravely and desperately. I am filled with pride for them,” he has emphasized.
Azamat has firmly said that Russia will definitely win this war, stressing that neither he nor his comrades-in-arms have any doubts about this. And they - the warriors - will continue to make an invaluable contribution to this long-awaited victory.
