A teleconference was held between Tskhinval and Vilnius

Representatives of South Ossetia participated in a round table in Vilnius (Lithuania), which discussed the events of the Georgian-South Ossetian war in August 2008. As the news agency "Res" was informd by the editor of the newspaper "South Ossetia" Zalina Tskhovrebova, representatives of South Ossetia had participated in the discussion through the space bridge set up between Tskhinval and Vilnius.

"Terminology liberties" distort the history of the August war - a round table in Tskhinval

The fifth anniversary of the August 2008 aggression the South Ossetian society is marking in a state of serious national depression. This opinion was expressed by the Chairman of the State Committee of Information and Press of South Ossetia Vyacheslav Gobozov at yesterday's meeting of experts at the Media Centre "Ir", which participants had discussed the status of South Ossetia and the Republic as a whole, after five years of the Georgian aggression against South Ossetia in August 2008.

In South Ossetia was laid a stone of the Memorial "Defenders of Ossetia"

In South Ossetia, as part of the events dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the beginning of the Georgian aggression in August 2008, has been held a ceremony of laying the foundation stone for the Memorial "Defenders of Ossetia." The event was attended by President Leonid Tibilov, government officials, members of the public, political parties, as well as the guests of the Republic.

In Tskhinval was held an action "Living Light of Memory"

In the capital of South Ossetia, at 23:35 sharp- the time when five years ago the Georgian troops launched a massive rocket and artillery bombardment of Tskhinval,- from the bell tower of the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin rang the alarm bell in memory of the innocent victims of aggression and started the action "Living Light of Memory". Participants of the action lit candles in memory of the war dead- defenders of the Republic and the civilians.

Five years of the "August war": Interim Results

Five years ago, on the night of August 8, 2008, the Georgian government committed a fatal strategic mistake. Overestimating the political support of the United States and having underestimated the moral obligations assumed by Russia, Tbilisi launched a war of aggression against South Ossetia, resulted in the predictable defeat of the Georgian military machine and the final loss of the two former Georgian autonomies.

Looking back in 2008. August 5

The war in August 2008. On the eve of invasion ...

By August 5, 2008 the aggravation of the situation in the zone of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict was not reduced, that night the Georgian side shelled twice the positions of law enforcement bodies of the Republic. Fortunately, there were no victims. The South Ossetian side still refrained from returning the fire, hoping that the talks could be resumed and the war could be avoided. In the zone of conflict had been serving the OSCE observer mission, the tripartite peacekeeping forces. People were still hoping that these organizations would ensure the parties to sit down to talks and declare a cease-fire.
