Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia concerning the demarcation works at the border between South Ossetia and Georgia.

Nervous hysteria produced by Georgian authorities with regard to the demarcation works carried out in South Ossetia on defining the frontier between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia, is another false provocation, designed to mislead its own people and to support their ambitions by the international community.
After the recognition of its state independence in 2008, South Ossetia has established a commission on delimitation and demarcation of its borders with the neighboring states. The works in this field with the Russian Federation are completed, but the repeated calls to Georgia are still unanswered.
It is surprising the ability of the Georgian authorities to envelop in mist the existing reality and reverse the situation, thereby building up tensions in the region. The statements by the Georgian side, on allegedly unauthorized works carried out by the Russian border guards at the border, and especially the transfer of the boundary into the territory of Georgia, are absurd and untrue. Russian border guards have been protecting the state border of the Republic of South Ossetia in full accordance with the bilateral agreement on joint efforts to protect the state border of South Ossetia. The works to define the boundary between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia and its fixation are carried out in full accordance with legislation of the Republic of South Ossetia. The border guards are working in the territory of South Ossetia, not a meter crossing onto the Georgian territory.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia has repeatedly stated that according to the Constitution of the Republic of South Ossetia, the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia is defined within the territorial boundaries of the former South Ossetian Autonomous Region. South Ossetia, as the recognized and independent state, decides itself its border policy.
Official Tbilisi, instead of changing its flawed nationalist policy and instead of recognizing the independence of South Ossetia, continues to use the methods of the informational sabotage to achieve its goals and to attract the international community to address its own challenges and revanchist aspirations.
