The co-chairs of the Geneva discussions arrived in South Ossetia to discuss with the South Ossetian colleagues the agenda of the upcoming round of the Geneva discussions.

Murat Dzhioev, Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Republic of South Ossetia for post-conflict settlement issues, has noted that today they will have to continue the responsible work that the co-chairs are conducting at the platform of Geneva discussions on ensuring peace and security in our region. Murat Dzhioev has expressed hope that the upcoming round will be very positive.

He has told the co-chairs that on June 9 in South Ossetia took place elections of deputies of Parliament of the VIIth convocation.

“This is the seventh election since 1990. Elections are held by a majority - proportional system, and they were very democratic, calm. Representatives of 12 countries and over 70 international observers observed the elections,” the Plenipotentiary noted.

He also shared with his colleagues the good news - the South Ossetian football team became European champion according to ConIFA. “I’m not a big football fan, but I couldn’t hold back tears from happiness,” said Dzhioev, and expressed hope for a fruitful dialogue.

“Our main task is to develop a document and conditions for ensuring security of the people of South Ossetia and the region as a whole, so that humanitarian issues are resolved in the interests of the common people on both sides of the state border,” the Plenipotentiary stressed.

The EU Co-Chair Toivo Klaar also expressed his readiness for effective work.
Rudolf Michalaka, co-chair of the OSCE, said that the ability to continue the dialogue in this format was a big plus. “I want to express my gratitude to Murat Kuzmich and Egor Erikhovich for the informal dialogue, which helps to advance on humanitarian issues and for a constructive approach to the format of the IPRM, which take place every month. Despite the fact that we are faced with difficult issues, we continue to work in a constructive format, “- said Klaar.

The UN staff member Hailu Mamo also expressed willingness to work.
