Georgia has previously put up an illegal police roadblock, which caused a serious aggravation of the situation on the border

The South Ossetian KGB Border Service Combined Group has begun arranging a border post on a section of the South Ossetian-Georgian border west of the village of Uista (Tsnelis), the KGB press service reports.

"The border post is located on the border line of the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia at an altitude of 944.8, which is dominant in this section of the border," the KGB statement said.

It should be reminded that Georgia has previously put up an illegal police roadblock, which caused a serious aggravation of the situation on the border. The authorities of South Ossetia demanded that Georgia should remove the police post by August 30, otherwise they promised to take "legal means to protect the population from emerging threats," but Georgia continued to put up a checkpoint. At the meetings in the format of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) with the mediation of the OSCE and the European Union, Georgia did not compromise.

The KGB notes that road services have begun to clear the dirt road in order to ensure the full functioning of the post of the South Ossetian border guards.

"The arrangement of the post is carried out as part of a special humanitarian operation aimed at maintaining the border regime, ensuring the security of citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia living in the border zone of Znaur district, and stabilizing the military-political situation in the region," the intelligence service said.

The border post at a strategically important height prevents the Georgian side from trying to establish control over part of the territory of South Ossetia in the area of the village of Uista.
