The recognition decision made by the Venezuelan leadership was based on a deep understanding of emerging international realities and indicated open and firm support for the just struggle of the people of South Ossetia for the inalienable right to self-determination and freedom, said the message of the President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov addressed to the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro.
Tuesday marks the 10th anniversary of the recognition of the state independence of the Republic by Venezuela.
“Exactly ten years ago, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela recognized the state independence of the Republic of South Ossetia. South Ossetia appreciates friendship with the freedom-loving Venezuelan people and, no matter how much time passes, they will always gratefully remember the invaluable support provided by the leadership and people of the Republic of Venezuela in one of the most difficult periods in the history of our young state, "the message says.
Anatoly Bibilov is convinced that the further development of friendly relations will contribute to strengthening and building up bilateral partnerships.
"I sincerely wish you good health, prosperity and success, and all the fraternal people of the Republic of Venezuela - harmony, peace and prosperity," the President said.
Venezuela recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia on September 10, 2009. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia during his visit to Russia. Chavez also assured the development of interstate relations with the two republics. Prior to this, Chavez supported Russia's decision to recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia: "Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. We support Russia. Russia is right and defends its interests."
