South Ossetia has celebrated the Republic Day. As part of the festivities on the Cathedral Square of Tskhinval, an action was held dedicated to the International Day of Peace, a holiday that is of great importance to all of humanity.
The action was organized by the Committee on Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism with the support of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in the Republic of South Ossetia, according to the official website of the representative office.
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed International Peace Day in its resolution in 1981, but only twenty years later it was decided to celebrate Ceasefire Day every year on September 21.
This holiday is intended to convey to people the danger of conflicts in which many states live today, the danger of wars that claim the lives of people. It is on this day that the call for peace takes place.
On the way to its independence, the Republic of South Ossetia survived the difficult times associated with the hostilities of 2008. Teachers and schoolchildren, media representatives, and employees of the Russian diplomatic mission gathered on the Cathedral Square in Tskhinval.
Elina Gakoeva, a participant in the V International Livadia Humanitarian Forum, representing the Republic of South Ossetia at the Forum, introduced the Livadia Peace Message to the meeting. At the end of the action, the children launched into the sky white balloons and pigeons - symbols of peace in the world.
