On the 11th anniversary of the recognition of the independence of South Ossetia by the Republic of Venezuela, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the RSO Dmitry Medoev sent a congratulatory message to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela Jorge Alberto Arreas Montserrat, the press service of the country's Foreign Ministry reported.
“On September 10, 2009, the great Commander Hugo Chavez announced the support of the people of Venezuela for the sovereignty and independence of South Ossetia. It is difficult to overestimate the significance of this event for the people of South Ossetia, who greeted the news of the recognition of their country's independence with great joy, sincere gratitude and new hopes. Despite the thousands of kilometers separating Venezuela and South Ossetia, our peoples, close in spirit, are united by a sincere love for freedom and their land, respect for other peoples. Over the years, our countries have built strong interstate relations based on mutual understanding, trust and commitment to a just world order,” the message says.
Medoev has added that South Ossetia is grateful to the leadership and people of Venezuela for the consistently firm support of the country's positions in the international arena for 11 years.
“I am convinced that the interstate relations between South Ossetia and Venezuela will continue to develop in the mainstream of dynamic and constructive cooperation in the interests of our peoples in the name of peace, brotherhood and equality,” Medoev said.
Acting. Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia has also sent a congratulatory message to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Russian Federation Carlos Rafael Faria Tortosa.
“September 10, 2009 has become a landmark date in the history and fate of the Ossetian people. The recognition of the independence of South Ossetia by Venezuela once again confirmed the correctness of the chosen path, strengthened the faith of the people of Ossetia in justice, opened up new vectors of international cooperation for them, gave an impetus for further work in this direction.
Mr. Ambassador, knowing your good attitude towards South Ossetia and its people, I express my firm confidence that with your personal participation the activities of the Embassy of Venezuela will continue to contribute in every way to strengthening friendly and allied relations between our states,” the message says.
Venezuela is the third state to recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, after Russia and Nicaragua.
