South Ossetia joined the international project "Return of the Name"

In South Ossetia, the “Return of the Name” project has begun, the purpose of which is to search for prisoners of fascism who went missing in German Nazi concentration camps for prisoners of war and their relatives, as well as Red Army soldiers, killed on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. The Chairman of the youth organization "United Alania" Mikhail Kochiev told the journalists about it.

According to him, this project is of great importance in clarifying the fate of the missing soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, natives of South Ossetia.

“We joined the project in May this year. The youth organization "United Alania" received a letter from the Chairman of Rossotrudnichestvo in South Ossetia Sergei Skvortsov with a proposal to take part in the international project "Return of the name". We agreed with pleasure. As we know, about 22 thousand South Ossetians participated in the Great Patriotic War, more than 11 thousand soldiers perished. Of these, seven thousand people are missing, we will be searching for them, transferring all information to relatives who live in South Ossetia,” said Kochiev.

As noted by the Chairman of the organization, within the framework of the project, the work will be carried out with archival documents, the search for relatives of fighters who have gone missing or ended up in concentration camps.

“During these months we were talking a lot with the project manager Grigory Skvortsov. He explained how to implement this project in South Ossetia. We immediately got involved, organized meetings with representatives of the Defense Ministry of the Republic, with the Cadet School. We met with the head of the Presidential. Executive Office of South Ossetia Igor Kozaev, who provides full assistance in the implementation of this project, as well as with the heads of the Republic’s districts. We have done all this work for several months and now we are ready to start the “Return of the Name”. project,” he said.

The cadet school of the Defense Ministry of South Ossetia has already begun to study archival documents. The project also contributes to the patriotic education of the younger generation.
