In August 2009, in order to ensure direct gas supply to South Ossetia from the Russian territory, Gazprom put into operation the Dzuarikau - Tskhinval gas pipeline. Gas supplies to the Republic are carried out under a contract with Gazprom Export.
In May 2018, the governments of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation signed the Agreement “On the terms of purchase and sale of shares and further activities of the open joint stock company Gazprom - South Ossetia.
