The leadership of the Republic of South Ossetia laid wreaths and flowers at the places of death in August 2008 of the defenders of Ossetia and civilians of the Republic.
The laying ceremony began at the destroyed barracks of the Russian peacekeeping battalion. In August 2008, Russian peacekeepers were the first to take the aggressor's blow.
Representatives of the leadership of the Republic headed by President Alan Gagloev, ex-presidents Ludwig Chibirov and Leonid Tibilov, Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, Ambassador of Abkhazia to South Ossetia Alan Elbakiev, representatives of the Parliament headed by Speaker Alan Alborov, leaders of the law enforcement agencies, the guests of the Republic, military personnel and members of the public.
The event continued with the laying of flowers at the monument to the Hero of Ossetia Oleg Galavanov.
Thirty-two-year-old Oleg Galavanov died heroically in August 2008. He was serving in the intelligence service of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of South Ossetia. He was posthumously awarded the highest state award of the Republic of South Ossetia "Uatsamonga" for courage and bravery shown during the August 2008 war.
In addition, President Alan Gagloev, Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, leaders of the government and Parliament, as well as the politicians laid flowers at the monument to Hero of Russia Denis Vetchinov, who died heroically in the 2008 war.
Major Denis Vetchinov received the title of Hero of Russia posthumously. On August 9, he rescued a group of Russian journalists who, along with a column of the 58th Army, were ambushed by Georgian special forces. During the battle, he received many wounds and died on the way to the hospital.
Flowers were also laid at the monument to the fallen OMON officers in the village of Tbet. At this place they entered into an unequal battle with the Georgian aggressor. The OMON fighters to the last resisted the Georgians, who were trying to break into their native Tskhinval.
Six of them - Alan Kabisov, Valery Dzakhoev, Soslan Maldzigov, Tamaz Pliev, Alan Sanakoev and Gayoz Bichenov did not come out of this battle alive.
The laying continued at the "Symbol of Sorrow" Monument in the "Museum of Burnt Souls", located in the village of Tbet.
The participants of the laying ceremony also paid tribute to the memory of employees of the Ministry of Defense Amiran Bagaev and Azamat Dzhioev, perished in August 2008.
Heroes of Ossetia Amiran Bagaev (Bagira) and Azamat Dzhioev (Panther), having shown courage and heroism, 15 years ago with their detachment stopped the Georgian column, which numbered more than 500 people, on the western approaches to Tskhinval.
Bagaev and Dzhioev were posthumously awarded the highest military award of South Ossetia "Uatsamonga".
