Cooperation between South Ossetia and Russia has reached a high level over the past 15 years and is actively developing in all areas, from the military-political sphere to education, culture and sports, President of the Republic of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev noted on Thursday at the press conference in Tskhinval.
“As noted by Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin during our meeting in the Kremlin, and with whom I completely agree, relations between Russia and South Ossetia are of a special nature. The allied relations of our countries, which is especially important, have stood the test of time,” the head of state has noted. “The special military operation once again has proved that Russia and South Ossetia are together in any situation.”
Gagloev has added that to date, about 130 agreements of various levels have been signed between the two countries.
“The relevant departments of the two countries have been closely cooperating. Inter-parliamentary ties are growing. As a responsible partner, Russia has been fully fulfilling its obligations. And the most important thing that I would like to note and that is priceless for us is that thanks to Russia, peace has been firmly established in South Ossetia. The Russian Federation has been and remains a reliable ally of South Ossetia, a guarantor of peace and security in the region,” the President has emphasized.
According to him, the updated Concept of Russian Foreign Policy also confirmed the level of bilateral relations.
“It emphasizes that Russia intends to prioritize comprehensive support for South Ossetia, as well as our choice to deepen integration with Russia. We all see what the current situation is in the world and in our region, and therefore this is very important for us,” the President said. - In addition to security, our second main priority in relations with Russia is economic cooperation. The investment program allowed us to restore the Republic; it has proven its effectiveness. Now it is necessary to move from restoration to economic development. This is the essence of our regular meetings with Russian colleagues. This is the most serious challenge facing the country today.”
