The South Ossetian authorities are not going to stop the activities of the Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the territory of the Republic, said the Security Council Secretary Anatoly Pliev RSO at the today`s press conference in Tskhinval.
According to him, some of the media misinterpreted the words of President Leonid Tibilov about the ICRC activities in South Ossetia.
"The President instructed the Foreign Ministry to hold talks with the ICRC on further cooperation within the framework of their mandate in South Ossetia.
Nobody is going to expel or take away the mandate of the Red Cross. We have a right to know - how and what they are doing, that it is a worldwide practice, "- said Pliev.
He added that the Mission`s employees had already met with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic.
"All the issues have already been resolved," - he said.
The Chairman of the State Committee of Information and Press of South Ossetia Vyacheslav Gobozov has added that the president as head of state has the right to give instructions to assess the effectiveness of any international organization in the territory of the Republic.
"The Red Cross has been working in the territory of the independent state, which has its own national interests and national security issues. If the prevailing model of cooperation between the ICRC and the RSO is not effective, that is not consistent with our national interests, we have the full right to require its modification or even termination of the organization, "- said Gobozov.
Today’s press conference was the first as part of a series of similar events with the participation of heads of executive authorities of South Ossetia, held on the instructions of President Leonid Tibilov. The purpose of regular communication of the officials with the media – is better informing the population of the Republic about the activities of South Ossetian ministries and agencies.
