South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov has received today the Minister of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Nikolay Nikiforov, who arrived yesterday, August 13, in the Republic on a two-day working visit.
At the meeting the head of state has noted that for 20 years of the war, the entire infrastructure of South Ossetia, including the communications industry, has fallen into decay.
"Today, with the help of Russia we have been trying to restore the ravaged economy, developing the communications industry, thereby implementing a lot of inter-state agreements," - said Tibilov.
In turn, Nikolay Nikiforov said that his first visit to South Ossetia was interesting and fruitful.
"We have discussed with the South Ossetian colleagues a variety of topics related to the development of communications. There has also taken place a marquee event – cancellation of the first South Ossetian postage stamp. This is an important step towards a full-featured mail service. We have considered the prospects of using mobile post offices in the regions, where live a small number of people. It was also discussed the development of communications system, having highlighted the need to develop a systematic project on the development of communications, "- said Nikiforov.
According to the Russian minister, "the purpose of the work is very simple – the qualitative affordable communications services."
He has noted that the current results are already impressive. In particular, Nikiforov has mentioned good speed of the mobile Internet in South Ossetia, which, according to him, is not available even in some regions of Russia.
