South Ossetia has enough water resources to build a network of hydropower plants in the Republic, capable of producing its own electricity twice as much as the population and the enterprises are consuming today, said the Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Energy and Transport Vasily Dzasseev at the briefing in Tskhinval.

According to him, the Russian experts have studied the water resources of South Ossetia and have come to the conclusion that there could be built a network of hydro power plants with total capacity of 75-80 MW-h.
"This is almost twice as much as we are consuming today. The Republic is able to generate its own electricity for three years, which will increase our own revenues to the budget ", - said the head of the Committee.
At the same time, to date, gas and electricity are being sold to the population at a price far below the purchase price, and therefore the main distributor of energy in the Republic - SUE "Energy resource -South Ossetia" – is subsidized from the state budget in the amount of 200 million rubles annually.
"In the case of commissioning the network of hydropower, the cost price will reach up to 40 kopecks. If we sell a kilowatt for a ruble, it will replenish our budget to 75 million rubles per year ", - said Dzasseev.
Regarding the profitability of industrial enterprises, the head of the Committee has noted that currently are being taken measures for their re-profiling. Dzasseev has added that they are considering the possibility of incorporation of the enterprises and the attraction of foreign investors.
