The signing of the basic interstate document took place within the framework of the official visit of the South Ossetian President Anatoly Bibilov to Damascus.
As reported by the press service of the head of state said, the framework agreement between Syria and South Ossetia provides for cooperation in the field of foreign policy, cooperation in strengthening peace and creating the conditions necessary for economic development of the two countries.
As noted in the text of the document, when signing the treaty, Tskhinval and Damascus proceeded "from mutual striving for the development of bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields, considering that the strengthening of friendly relations on the basis of equality meets the fundamental interests of the peoples of both states."
In addition, the parties agreed to promote the development of cooperation in science, education, culture and sports.
A separate point in the agreement states that the authorities of South Ossetia and Syria will contribute to the creation of favorable economic, financial and legal conditions for entrepreneurial, investment and other economic activities, including stimulation and mutual protection of investments.
President Bashar al-Assad on the results of the talks in Damascus has noted that the signed agreement will become the foundation for the development of various relations.
Anatoly Bibilov, for his part, expressed confidence that "the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation will soon be supplemented by practical concrete actions aimed at the benefit of the peoples of Syria and South Ossetia."
According to the press service of the head of state, the official visit of Anatoly Bibilov to the Syrian Arab Republic will last for several days. Within the framework of the visit,are planned meetings with the Prime Minister, Speaker of the Parliament and representatives of the business community of Syria.
The delegation of South Ossetia has included the head of the Presidential Executive Office Igor Kozaev, Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev, Defense Minister Ibrahim Gasseev, Minister of Economic Development Gennady Kokoev, head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Alan Tadtaev.
