South Ossetia is successfully building relations with the Russian Federation, which is a reliable friend and security guarantor for the Rpublic, said South Ossetian President Anatoly Bibilov, speaking at a solemn meeting on the 27th anniversary of the adoption of the Act of Independence.
“Thanks to the help of Great Russia, we have defended our freedom and independence, and today we are confident in our future,” said the head of state.
He noted that the solemn events of today's holiday in Tskhinval had begun with the opening of the memorial bust of the first head of the Republic, Torez Kulumbegov.
"His name is inextricably linked to the creation of the Republic, legalization and the emergence of sovereign statehood. Torez was the first to propose the transformation of the South Ossetian autonomous region into the republic and his signature is under the historic resolution of the Supreme Council of the Republic of South Ossetia of adopted the Act on the proclamation of state independence ", - said Bibilov.
This monument, the President has stressed, is a tribute to the memory of people who, at the turning point of history, showed readiness to make any sacrifices for the sake of their Fatherland, tribute to the memory of the patriotic feat of the people.
According to him, 27 years have passed since that fateful day when South Ossetia made its irrevocable and final choice.
"The will of the people, expressed in a referendum and enshrined in the Act on the Proclamation of State Independence, adopted by the deputies of the legendary first convocation, determined the course of the entire future history of our republic," the head of the republic said.
"South Ossetia will never recognize Georgia’s jurisdiction over itself. Russia brought peace to the land of South Ossetia in June 1992. Until recognition remained for many years. The fire of war came to our land twice - in 2004 and 2008, but never in South Ossetia the question was raised about the correctness of the choice made on May 29, 1992 ... ", said the President.
According to him, South Ossetia is successfully moving along the path of integration with the Russian Federation.
"The union of the security spaces of South Ossetia and Russia proclaimed in the Treaty of Alliance and Integration is implemented, providing reliable guarantees of security to our people. Continuing to work on the development of integration processes, we use all the opening opportunities to strengthen our unity. Today, territorial integrity, sovereignty and the security of the republic is reliably guaranteed by the Russian Federation ... ", - said Anatoly Bibilov at the end of the speech.
South Ossetia on Wednesday is marking the 27th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. The document was adopted by the Supreme Soviet on May 29, 1992. This date is included in the holiday calendar and is declared a day off. Festive events are held in the republic.
