President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov has met with a delegation of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation headed by Sergei Tsekov, member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, who arrived in the Republic as international observers for the presidential election on May 8.
First of all, Anatoly Bibilov congratulated the members of the delegation on the upcoming Victory Day, after which he discussed with the guests the electoral procedure in South Ossetia.
“The first round of elections was held without violations. This is a great achievement and speaks of the democratic nature of the electoral procedure in South Ossetia. I am sure that the elections will be held calmly, the wisdom of the people will prevail and tomorrow they will choose their worthy future,” he said.
For his part, Sergei Tsekov noted, "elections in any country are a great tension and excitement both for the people and for the candidates themselves."
He has also stressed that the voting procedure for the presidential elections in South Ossetia testifies to the democratic nature of the electoral process.
“Given our experience of observing the previous elections, we are confident that everything will be held at a good organizational level and within the framework of the existing norms. The fact that the ballots are signed by the representatives of the candidates, and the voter's passport is stamped, indicating that the voter has already been to the polling station and voted, is a very good practice. The world community, which does not recognize the elections in South Ossetia, should familiarize itself with the electoral legislation of South Ossetia and borrow the best norms,” Sergei Tsekov said.
Further, were discussed the issues of holding a referendum on the entry of the Republic of South Ossetia into the Russian Federation, as well as the political situation in the country and the world.
