The third President of the Republic, Leonid Tibilov, has become the head of the South Ossetian branch of the international public movement "Supreme Council of Ossetians" ("Iry Styr Nykhas").
The former leader of the country was elected by the unanimous decision of the organization's coordinating council.
The reporting and election conference of the South Ossetian branch of "Iry Styr Nykhas" was held in Tskhinval on Tuesday.
President of the Republic Alan Gagloev, Chairman of the international public movement "Supreme Council of Ossetians" Zelim Vataev, delegates from the Republic's districts and the cities of Tskhinval and Kvaysa took part in the discussion of current issues of the Ossetian people.
Alan Gagloev emphasized the importance of preserving and strengthening the traditions of the Ossetian people, as well as supporting their native language.
"Traditions and native language connect generation to generation, pass on knowledge and wisdom that help the Ossetian people become stronger. It is important that the language and cultural heritage of the Ossetian people develop," the President said.
The President has added that the work is also underway to create a youth branch of the "Supreme Council of Ossetians."
"Our task is to include as many youth representatives as possible in the council. In North Ossetia, this work is already well established, the older generation, together with young people, discusses and finds solutions to pressing issues in the youth environment," the president said.
In turn, the former head of the South Ossetian branch of "Iry Styr Nykhas" Robert Gagloev made a report on the work done over the years, noting that the key point is the discussion of the topic of unification of Ossetia.
According to Gagloev, the need has also matured to celebrate a single Day of the Ossetian Flag in both North Ossetia and South Ossetia.
"The Ossetian flag unites the people of Ossetia; we are one people, one heritage and a common history. In addition, the restoration of historical towers and holy places is the key to strengthening our culture and cohesion, these places inspire our society and remind us of the great spiritual and cultural traditions of our ancestors," Gagloev said.
As part of the conference, Chairman of the international public movement "Supreme Council of Ossetians" Zelim Vataev addressed the audience. According to him, one of the most pressing challenges facing the Ossetian people is the increase in demographics.
"The foundations of traditions begin with the family. It is the stone on which culture, language and our identity in general are built. By strengthening family values, we will preserve our customs and traditions. The cohesion and unity of the people will always be a priority. By celebrating our unique holidays, we create understanding and respect for our culture, strengthen our unity and demonstrate to the future generation how important roots are," Vataev said.
As part of the reporting and election conference, the winners and participants of the recitation competition among school and preschool children, dedicated to the 165th anniversary of the great Ossetian poet Kosta Khetagurov, were awarded.
The competition was organized by the K. Khetagurov National Scientific and Cultural Center of North Ossetia.
